Veteran actor and visionary filmmaker Kamal Haasan recently visited the headquarters of Perplexity AI, a cutting-edge AI-powered search platform based in San Francisco. The visit saw Kamal Haasan interacting with Aravind Srinivas, the co-founder and CEO of the company, who is widely recognized for his contributions to global AI innovation.
Known for his relentless pursuit of artistic excellence and technological advancement, Kamal Haasan’s interaction with Perplexity’s team sparked speculation about the incorporation of advanced AI tools in filmmaking. This aligns with his current work on Thug Life, his ambitious project directed by Mani Ratnam. With Haasan’s recent academic pursuit in Artificial Intelligence at a prestigious U.S. institute, the visit marks yet another milestone in his journey of blending cinema with future-forward technology.
Sharing his experience on social media, Kamal Haasan wrote, “From cinema to Silicon, the tools evolve—but our thirst for what’s next remains. Inspired by my visit to Perplexity HQ in San Francisco, where Indian ingenuity shines through Aravind Srinivas and his brilliant team building the future—one question at a time. Curiosity didn’t kill the cat — it created Aravind Srinivas and Perplexity AI!” In response, Aravind Srinivas expressed his admiration for the actor’s passion and vision, stating, “Was great to meet and host you Kamal Haasan at the Perplexity office! Your passion to still learn and incorporate cutting-edge technology in filmmaking is inspirational! Wish you the best for Thug Life and the future projects you are working on!”
Thug Life, produced by Kamal Haasan alongside R Mahendran, Siva Ananth, and Udhayanidhi Stalin, features music by AR Rahman and a powerhouse technical crew including cinematographer Ravi K Chandran, editor Sreekar Prasad, stunt choreographers Anbariv, and costume designer Eka Lakhani. The film stars an ensemble cast comprising Silambarasan, Trisha, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Abhirami, Nassar, Mahesh Manjrekar, and Tanikella Bharani. It is slated for a grand worldwide theatrical release on June 5, 2025.
