Chennai Mayor R. Priya inaugurated a dedicated help centre for conservancy workers at the Greater Chennai Corporation’s Anna Nagar zonal office. This is part of a larger initiative, where similar centres will be opened across all 15 zones of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).These centres aim to support conservancy workers by helping them access various welfare schemes and services provided by the Tamil Nadu Sanitary Workers Welfare Board. During the inauguration, Mayor R. Priya distributed identity cards and welfare scheme booklets to registered members.
According to an official release, all temporary sanitation workers and their families who register as members of the board will be eligible for a range of benefits. These include accident insurance, financial assistance for natural death, marriage, education, maternity, funeral support, and old age pension.
In particular, special benefits will be given to core sanitation workers involved in sewage-related work—whether formal or informal. These include vocational training, identity cards under the Sanitation Worker Development Scheme (SWDS), personal protective equipment, minimum wage assurance, social security communication, and livelihood programs.

The event was attended by several dignitaries including GCC Commissioner Mr. J. Kumaragurubaran, Anna Nagar MLA Mr. M.K. Mohan, Deputy Commissioner (Works) Mr. J. Sivakrishnamurthy, Mr. K.J. Praveen Kumar, and others.
