AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has leveled serious allegations against the ruling DMK government, claiming that traders are being extorted by ruling party members and are increasingly unsafe under the current administration.Speaking at a “Traders’ Safety Conference” held in Maraimalai Nagar, Chengalpattu district, EPS criticized the DMK for supporting foreign direct investment (FDI) in the retail sector, which he said undermines local businesses. He added that drug addicts, particularly those under the influence of ganja, are attacking traders, creating a climate of fear.
“There is no safety not just for traders but for anyone in this state under the DMK regime,” EPS declared. “Ruling party members are collecting bribes from traders, and extortion has become routine. Once the AIADMK returns to power, these issues will be resolved.”
EPS emphasized that attacks on traders have sharply increased under the DMK government and warned that the law and order situation is deteriorating. “Traders are the backbone of the country’s economy, yet the current government is openly hostile towards them,” he said.
Citing frequent reports in the media about attacks on business owners, EPS blamed the DMK for emboldening anti-social elements. “Every time the DMK comes to power, attacks on traders rise. The government has failed to ensure basic safety for this vital section of society,” he concluded.
