In view of Bakrid, upcoming muhurtham days, and weekend travel rush, the Tamil Nadu State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) has announced the operation of 1608 additional special buses across the state. This move is aimed at ensuring smooth travel for the public during the busy period from June 6th to 9th, 2025.According to the official press release, on Friday, June 6th—marked as a muhurtham day and the eve of Bakrid—520 special buses will be operated from Kilambakkam bus terminus in Chennai. These buses will cater to high-demand destinations such as Tiruvannamalai, Trichy, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Nagercoil, Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, and Tiruppur. On Saturday, June 7th, the number of special buses from Kilambakkam will rise to 550 to meet increased passenger demand.
From the Koyambedu bus terminus in Chennai, an additional 100 special buses will be operated on Friday to locations including Hosur, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Tiruvannamalai, and Bengaluru. On Saturday, 90 more buses will be deployed to these destinations.
In North Chennai, Madhavaram will see the operation of 24 special buses each on both Friday and Saturday. Furthermore, from key cities such as Bengaluru, Erode, Tiruppur, and Coimbatore, about 300 special buses will be launched to various parts of Tamil Nadu.
To facilitate return journeys, special buses will also be arranged on Sunday, June 8th, from towns and villages back to Chennai and Bengaluru, depending on passenger needs.
The initiative is expected to ease travel congestion during this high-traffic period and provide a more comfortable experience for holiday and event-goers.
