London, July 12:  In a stunning display of power and precision, Jannik Sinner defeated tennis legend Novak Djokovic in straight sets on Friday to book his place in the Wimbledon 2025 final, where he will face defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner won the semifinal 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 on Centre Court, handing Djokovic one of his most convincing losses at the All England Club.
The 23-year-old Italian, currently ranked world number one, delivered a commanding performance against the seven-time Wimbledon champion, dismantling Djokovic’s rhythm and dominating rallies from the baseline. It was a landmark win for Sinner, who now reaches his first Wimbledon final and fourth consecutive Grand Slam final.
Sunday’s final promises to be a thrilling continuation of the modern-day rivalry between Sinner and Alcaraz—two of the brightest stars in men’s tennis. This will be their fourth Grand Slam meeting, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Alcaraz, ranked world number two, is aiming to defend his Wimbledon title, while Sinner is hunting for redemption.
The last time the two met, in the 2025 French Open final, Sinner came heartbreakingly close to victory but ended up losing despite holding three championship points in a dramatic five-set thriller. That loss still lingers, and Sinner will be eager to settle scores on the grass courts of Wimbledon.
For Novak Djokovic, the defeat marks a rare stumble on a stage where he has long reigned supreme. He was bidding to reach his 10th Wimbledon final and add to his 24 Grand Slam titles. But the Serbian maestro looked unusually flat, struggling with Sinner’s pace and unable to find answers to the Italian’s relentless attack.
This was the first time Djokovic lost in straight sets at Wimbledon since 2013, and it raises questions about the future of the 37-year-old’s dominance in the era of rising young stars.
