AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has strongly criticised the DMK government, accusing it of failing to deliver on its promises to the farming and fishing communities. Speaking at a public meeting, EPS questioned the tangible benefits brought by the DMK’s five agriculture budgets and accused the ruling party of offering only empty assurances. He pointed out that despite announcements, there has been no major improvement in irrigation infrastructure, fair crop compensation, or proper distribution of input subsidies. Fishermen too, he said, have not received the support they were promised, especially in terms of financial aid and safety measures.
EPS also claimed that many farmers still await pending dues under crop insurance and other government schemes, and he alleged that the DMK’s budget speeches were focused more on image-building than on-ground delivery.
The criticism comes at a time when the DMK government is projecting significant growth in the agriculture sector. However, with elections drawing nearer, the opposition is intensifying its scrutiny of the ruling party’s performance in rural welfare.
