At least five people have died, around 20 are missing, and hundreds are stranded in Dehradun and surrounding districts of Uttarakhand after heavy rainfall and overnight cloudbursts on Tuesday. The intense rainfall triggered landslides and caused rivers to swell, damaging roads and homes. Areas such as Sahastradhara, Maldevta, and Dalanwala in Dehradun were severely affected. The Tamsa River near Tapkeshwar temple rose rapidly, submerging nearby areas.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the affected regions to assess the damage and coordinate rescue operations. The state government issued a red alert for Dehradun, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar, warning of continued heavy rain and possible flooding.
Rescue teams are evacuating stranded residents and restoring essential services. Authorities have urged people to stay alert, follow safety instructions, and avoid moving through flooded or landslide-prone areas.
