In a recent demonstration in Sriperumbudur, Kancheepuram district, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President Selvaperunthakai led a signature campaign protesting alleged electoral irregularities by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government and the Election Commission. Addressing the gathering, Selvaperunthakai emphasized the importance of free speech and democratic participation.
He specifically appealed to the Tamil Nadu government to permit actor Vijay, leader of the TVK, to campaign without restrictions. Selvaperunthakai argued that in a democratic nation, individuals should have the liberty to express their views and participate in political activities.
The Congress leader also criticized the central government’s claims regarding the benefits of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) reduction, labeling them as misleading. He further expressed concerns over the imposition of Hindi language promotion and the new National Education Policy, which he believes undermines regional languages and local autonomy.
Selvaperunthakai concluded by asserting that the alliance between the AIADMK and BJP is unnatural and has been rejected by the people of Tamil Nadu. He reiterated his call for the state government to allow Vijay the freedom to campaign and express his views openly.
