The 2025 WTA Chennai Open is set to commence on October 27, marking the return of the WTA 250 event to Chennai after a three-year hiatus. This tournament will conclude the 2025 WTA circuit, with only the year-ending Masters in Turin to follow, making it one of just three WTA events worldwide at this stage of the season.
The main singles draw will feature 32 players, including defending champion Linda Fruhvirtová from the Czech Republic, who won the title in 2022. Other notable entrants include Magda Linette of Poland, Tatjana Maria of Germany, Donna Vekić of Croatia, and Francesca Jones of Great Britain. Indian players likely to compete are Sahaja Yamalapalli, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, and the Coimbatore teen sensation Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi. The final list of participants will be confirmed closer to the tournament date.
In the doubles category, 16 teams will compete, with 14 direct entries and two wild cards. The doubles draw will showcase a mix of international and Indian pairings, adding to the excitement of the tournament.
The Chennai Open will be played on outdoor hard courts at the SDAT Tennis Stadium, offering a platform for both established and emerging talents to showcase their skills. With a total prize money commitment of $275,094, the tournament promises to deliver high-quality tennis action.
Fans can look forward to a week of intense competition, culminating in the finals on November 2, 2025. The tournament’s conclusion will set the stage for the WTA Finals in Turin, Italy.
