New Delhi, Oct 25: India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said the world body United Nations is not working properly. He spoke at an event marking the 80th anniversary of the UN.
He said the UN’s debates have become very polarised. He added that its work is clearly gridlocked.
Jaishankar pointed to a case where a UN Security Council member allegedly protected a terror organisation. He did not name the country, but his remarks were seen as referring to Pakistan.
He asked: If victims and perpetrators of terrorism are treated the same in global strategy, what does that say about the world’s sincerity?
He warned that when the maintenance of international peace becomes only lip-service, other goals like development and social progress suffer too.
