The DMK has filed a petition in the Supreme Court opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list scheduled in Tamil Nadu starting today. The party alleges that this exercise undermines democracy by potentially removing legitimate voters and creating confusion. The SIR, which also covers 11 other states, involves detailed voter list revision ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
DMK and allies argue that conducting such a major revision just months before elections is a strategy to disenfranchise voters, especially amid festival seasons and monsoon rains that may hinder voter registration. The party’s petition claims the Election Commission of India (ECI) is acting under political influence and ignoring concerns raised by several parties.
