Louisville, Nov 7: A UPS cargo plane crashed and exploded shortly after takeoff in Kentucky, killing at least 12 people, including a child. The left wing caught fire, leading to the detachment of an engine. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating, with initial findings indicating a fire developed in the wing as the plane was cleared for takeoff. The aircraft crashed near Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport after gaining altitude. The explosion impacted nearby businesses, including Kentucky Petroleum Recycling and an auto salvage yard. Witnesses reported chaos as explosions occurred and the plane descended in flames. Some survivors were treated for injuries, and operations at the airport resumed the following day. Investigations will look into potential causes of the incident, with comparisons made to a similar crash in 1979 involving a different airline. The UPS hub is a major facility in the region, handling a significant volume of logistics operations.
