At its “JioHotstar South Unbound” showcase in Chennai, streaming platform JioHotstar unveiled a massive new slate of 25 original films, series, and reality shows — spanning Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada — as part of its push to expand regional content across South India.In the Tamil lineup, some of the standout projects include Kaattan — a drama starring Vijay Sethupathi and Milind Soman — along with Lucky The Superstar featuring G.V. Prakash Kumar, as well as films such as Kenatha Kaanom, Lingam, Love Always, and Resort. Comedy-dramas, thrillers, romances, and even sequels of popular series are part of this diverse mix.
Beyond films, JioHotstar is also doubling down on reality and series content, with shows such as local versions of Bigg Boss Tamil, Bigg Boss Telugu, and Bigg Boss Malayalam, and for the first time a Telugu iteration of the adventure-reality brand Roadies for southern audiences.
According to JioStar’s head for the South cluster, the aim behind this ambitious slate is to “fuel the creative ecosystem with meaningful, long-term investments in talent, infrastructure and new storytelling formats.”
With stars like Vijay Sethupathi and G.V. Prakash Kumar attached to headline projects, this slate signals a significant push by streaming platforms to elevate regional cinema — giving audiences in South India access to a wide variety of new stories across languages and genres.
