Madurai, Dec 11: A disturbing bomb threat was made against the Sikandar Badusha Dargah located on Thiruparankundram Hill. As soon as authorities received the threat, a team from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) carried out a thorough search at the dargah. The hilltop of Thiruparankundram is home to both the Dargah and a temple — Kasi Viswanathar Temple — and nearby religious sites, which have been at the centre of recent communal tensions and controversies.
According to the report, the initial bomb threat triggered immediate security measures. The BDDS searched the dargah and surrounding areas, including the school on Periya Rath Veethi near the hill, as a precaution.
No explosives or suspicious objects have been found so far. Police have registered a cyber‑crime case and have begun investigating the source of the threat, as details point to a possible emailed hoax similar to other recent false threats in the state.
Local community leaders and residents expressed anxiety over the threat, saying it has added fresh tension to an already sensitive situation. They urged authorities to closely monitor developments and ensure communal harmony is maintained.
Authorities have urged calm, assuring that security at the hill — including at the dargah and temple — will be stepped up. They also appealed to the public not to spread rumours while the investigation is underway.
