
A woman has been arrested along with four others for allegedly setting her father-in-law on fire near Panruti in Cuddalore district, police said on Friday.
According to the police, the incident occurred following a domestic dispute involving the victim, Rajendran, an agricultural worker. He reportedly confronted his daughter-in-law, Jeyapriya, over her relationship with another man after the death of her husband. The argument escalated, during which Jeyapriya allegedly poured petrol on Rajendran and set him ablaze.
Rajendran sustained serious burn injuries and was rushed to Cuddalore Medical College Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. His condition is said to be critical.
Police have arrested Jeyapriya and four others in connection with the incident and have launched a detailed investigation. Officials said they are probing the exact sequence of events, the motive behind the attack, and the role of the other accused. Further charges may be added based on the outcome of the investigation.
