Tamil Nadu’s interim budget for 2026‑27 highlighted the success of the Vidiyal Payanam scheme, which has enabled women to travel safely across the state. Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu noted that under this programme, women have made an estimated 881 crore safe trips, reflecting the scheme’s wide reach and positive impact on women’s mobility.
The budget emphasised continued support for initiatives that promote safety, accessibility, and welfare for women. By prioritising schemes like Vidiyal Payanam, the state government aims to strengthen inclusive development and enhance opportunities for women across urban and rural areas alike.
With the interim budget setting the tone for fiscal planning in an election year, social welfare measures remain a key focus as Tamil Nadu moves toward its full budget after the polls.
