The AIADMK is reportedly set to announce its first phase of candidates for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on February 24, coinciding with the birth anniversary of late leader J. Jayalalithaa. Party insiders say Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the party’s general secretary, has finalised the list and chosen this special date — which also falls on Valarpirai Ashtami — believing it brings positive electoral significance.
According to sources, the list will include candidates for 15 constituencies, featuring several former ministers and sitting MLAs from various communities, with at least one woman candidate expected to be named. In keeping with party tradition, Palaniswami is said to have sought divine blessings for the announcement during a visit to Tirupati recently.
The move reflects AIADMK’s efforts to build momentum in the election campaign, and party workers and supporters are awaiting the formal candidate release and potential additional election‑related announcements on the same day.
