Miami, Mar 21: Iga Swiatek suffered a shocking early exit at the Miami Open 2026, losing to fellow Polish player Magda Linette in a three-set battle that exposed growing concerns in her recent form.

The world number two started strongly, dominating the opening set 6-1 in just over 30 minutes and looking in complete control. At that stage, the match seemed routine, especially considering Swiatek had comfortably beaten Linette in their previous meeting. But what followed was a complete shift in momentum.

Linette raised her level significantly in the second set, playing more aggressively and improving her serve. Swiatek, on the other hand, began to struggle with consistency. A crucial double fault late in the second set handed Linette the break she needed to level the match at 7-5.

The deciding set turned into a test of composure. Swiatek tried to fight back, saving multiple match points and showing resilience, but her game lacked the sharpness expected at this level. Linette stayed calm under pressure and eventually sealed a 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory, marking one of the biggest wins of her career.

This defeat is not an isolated incident. Swiatek has now faced a series of disappointing results in recent tournaments, including early exits in Doha and Indian Wells, and a quarterfinal loss at the Australian Open. For a player of her standard, this pattern is a clear dip, not bad luck.

After the match, Swiatek admitted that it was one of her poorest performances in years. She acknowledged that something felt off in her game and emphasized the need to return to training and fix the issues. That’s honest—but it also highlights that she currently doesn’t have answers.

Linette, ranked 50th, deserves full credit. She adjusted her strategy mid-match, took more risks, and refused to be dominated after the first set. That’s exactly what top players do—and what Swiatek failed to handle.

Meanwhile, other results in the tournament added to the drama. Veteran Venus Williams exited in the first round, while rising talents like Alexandra Eala and Joao Fonseca continued to make headlines with strong performances.

For Swiatek, the focus now shifts to recovery—both physically and mentally. Because if this trend continues, she’s not just losing matches—she’s losing her dominance.
