Coimbatore, Mar 23: Election authorities in Coimbatore intensified surveillance ahead of the Assembly polls, seizing vessels worth ₹1.45 lakh on Sunday in a crackdown against inducements to voters.
Acting on a tip-off, flying squad teams intercepted a parked goods vehicle at Pullukadu in the Coimbatore South constituency. During inspection, officials found a stock of vessels allegedly intended for distribution to voters, and immediately seized the items.
Authorities said the action is part of ongoing efforts to prevent the distribution of cash and gifts during the election period. So far, officials have seized cash and materials worth over ₹2 crore across the district.
To ensure strict monitoring, as many as 180 flying squads have been deployed throughout Coimbatore district. These teams are conducting continuous checks on vehicles and suspicious movements to curb electoral malpractices.
Officials reiterated that strict action will be taken against anyone found violating election norms, as surveillance continues to tighten in the run-up to the polls.
