Ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, the Chennai City Police has invited applications from retired police personnel and ex-servicemen to assist in election duty and strengthen security arrangements across the city.
The initiative aims to ensure smooth polling, maintain law and order, and enhance overall security during the election period. Officials said experienced personnel will play a crucial role in supporting the existing force.
Eligible applicants include retired police officers, ex-servicemen from the Army, Navy and Air Force, and former paramilitary personnel. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in security and law enforcement.
Selected candidates will be deployed for key responsibilities such as polling booth security, crowd control, law and order management, and assisting election officials. They will be provided remuneration as per government norms.
The last date for submitting applications is March 26, 2026. Interested candidates are required to register their details, including name, address and phone number, with election wing officials in their respective zones.
Officials have urged applicants to complete the registration process well before the deadline and ensure that all necessary documents, including identity proof and service records, are kept ready.
The move is seen as an important step towards conducting free and fair elections, while also providing an opportunity for retired personnel to contribute their experience to public service once again.
