Chennai, Apr 7:
Senior DMK leader Duraimurugan has strongly responded to criticism from AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami regarding his age, turning it into a fresh political flashpoint ahead of the Assembly elections.
The exchange comes after Palaniswami, during a campaign speech, remarked that Duraimurugan, now aged 88, may not be physically fit to effectively serve the people and attend to their grievances.
Reacting sharply, Duraimurugan dismissed the criticism, asserting that age is not a barrier to public service and experience matters more in politics. He countered that leadership should be judged by capability and commitment rather than age-based remarks.
The DMK leader is contesting again from his long-held Katpadi constituency, continuing his decades-long political career. His response reflects the DMK’s attempt to project experience and continuity, while countering opposition narratives.
The war of words between the two leaders has added to the heated campaign atmosphere in Tamil Nadu, where personal attacks and counter-attacks are increasingly shaping the election discourse.
