DMK senior leader T. R. Baalu has criticised the recent transfer of Tamil Nadu’s Chief Secretary, stating that the move was carried out despite there being no complaints against the officer.
Commission’s decision to replace Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam with M. Sai Kumar ahead of the Assembly elections, Baalu questioned the basis for the action.
He said such a significant administrative change should be backed by valid reasons, especially during a crucial election period.
The remarks come amid a political row over the Election Commission of India’s intervention in the State’s top bureaucracy. The Commission had ordered the reshuffle as part of measures to ensure free and fair elections.
Baalu alleged that the transfer appeared arbitrary and raised concerns over the timing of the decision, echoing the DMK’s broader criticism of central agencies’ role during elections.
The issue has intensified the ongoing war of words between the ruling DMK and the opposition AIADMK, with administrative changes becoming a key political flashpoint ahead of polling.
