New Delhi, Apr 18:

A key Constitutional amendment bill aimed at granting 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies failed to secure passage in the Lower House on Friday, triggering a sharp political war of words between the ruling party and the Opposition.

Following the defeat of the bill, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a strong attack on the Opposition parties, including the Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and Samajwadi Party.
He alleged that their stand reflected a “mindset against women’s empowerment” and accused them of blocking a historic opportunity to ensure political representation for women.

Shah said it was “reprehensible” that some parties celebrated the bill’s defeat, calling it an “insult to women who have waited decades for their rights.”
