DMK confident of sweeping Karur, Says Senthil Balaji

V. Senthil Balaji, senior leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and former minister, on Monday exuded confidence that Karur district will once again reaffirm its status as a DMK stronghold in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Addressing campaign meetings across the four Assembly segments — Karur, Aravakurichi, Krishnarayapuram (SC), and Kulithalai — Balaji asserted that the party is poised for a “thumping victory” in all constituencies.
Despite contesting from Coimbatore this time, Balaji stressed that his connection with Karur remains intact. “Karur and Coimbatore are like my body and soul. I have come here to reaffirm that Karur remains a fortress of the DMK,” he said, noting that his candidature shift was based on the party leadership’s decision.
Highlighting the DMK government’s development agenda, Balaji claimed that projects worth ₹5,000 crore had been implemented in Karur over the past five years, underscoring the administration’s focus on infrastructure and growth.
Taking aim at the opposition, he alleged that members of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam were attempting to provoke DMK cadres due to their inability to face electoral competition. He urged party workers to remain disciplined and concentrate on campaign activities.
Referring to the contentious Vennaimalai temple issue, Balaji accused the previous AIADMK regime of mismanagement. He further alleged that a functionary associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, with AIADMK backing, had taken the matter to court. He added that the current DMK government is actively pursuing legal measures to resolve the dispute.
