Acclaimed playback singer Dr Charulatha Mani, fresh off the pan-Indian success of “Anju Vanna Poove” from AR Rahman’s Thug Life, has released her latest independent single titled Thendralil. The track was officially launched by actor Vijay Sethupathi, who continues his strong support for independent music and emerging creative voices.
Marking a significant milestone in her musical journey, Thendralil sees Charulatha Mani taking on multiple creative roles as composer, lyricist, and singer. The song is built around a romantic narrative set against the backdrop of the ocean, beaches, and sand, weaving a mood-driven love story that blends classical sensibilities with contemporary soundscapes.
The music video, directed by Dharen Karthik, features actors Maalavika and Dhavan in lead roles, with Charulatha Mani also making a special appearance. The visual presentation complements the song’s emotional tone, adding a cinematic layer to its musical storytelling.
A trained Carnatic vocalist and raaga expert, Charulatha Mani brings her extensive academic and performance background into the composition. With a PhD in music from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University and a postdoctoral fellowship from the University of Queensland, she has long been known for bridging classical depth with modern expression.
Thendralil incorporates a rich blend of instrumentation, including sarangi, acoustic guitars, piano, pakhawaj, bass guitar, synths, and thavil, creating a layered and immersive listening experience.
The track is now available across all major streaming platforms, marking a confident and expressive debut as a composer for the artiste.
