Chennai, June 1:

Premalatha Vijayakanth on Sunday made a striking political claim, stating that the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Chief Minister Vijay, had approached her party seeking support to form the government and was even willing to offer her the Deputy Chief Minister’s post. Addressing a meeting of party district secretaries, she asserted that “if I had uttered a single word, Vijay himself would have come to my doorstep” with the offer, describing it as “the truth.”

Despite the alleged offer, Premalatha said the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) chose to remain loyal to its pre-poll alliance with the DMK-led front. She stressed that the party does not believe in switching sides after elections for the sake of power, adding that DMDK stood firm on its principles even after winning just one seat in the Assembly polls. She also dismissed allegations of horse-trading, claiming that her party had not yielded to any inducements or bargaining.

The remarks come against the backdrop of a historic electoral outcome in Tamil Nadu, where TVK emerged as the single largest party but fell short of a majority, leading to the formation of the State’s first coalition government in decades. With support from parties including Congress, VCK, Left parties, and IUML, the TVK government ended the long-standing dominance of single-party Dravidian rule. Premalatha reiterated that DMDK is not driven by the pursuit of posts or power, but by political integrity and commitment to alliance ethics.
