Chennai,  June 4:

Chennai’s intense summer heat and humidity can quickly lead to tanning, sweat-related breakouts and skin dehydration. Dermatology experts say the key to healthy skin in this weather is a simple routine focused on protection, hydration and cleanliness.

Sunscreen remains the most important step, with SPF 30 or higher recommended for daily use. Regular reapplication is advised for those spending long hours outdoors, while lightweight gel-based formulations are preferred in humid conditions.

Hydration also plays a crucial role, with adequate water intake helping maintain skin glow and prevent dullness. Experts suggest including water-rich fruits and natural fluids like coconut water to balance body heat during peak summer.

Regular cleansing is essential to remove sweat, dust and excess oil that can clog pores. A gentle face wash used two to three times a day can help prevent acne and irritation caused by heat and pollution.

Lightweight moisturisers are recommended instead of heavy creams, especially for oily skin types. Dermatologists also advise using aloe vera and other soothing ingredients to calm heat-induced skin stress.

Experts further suggest sun protection measures such as umbrellas, caps and avoiding direct exposure during peak afternoon hours. They say consistency in basic skincare is more effective than complicated routines in managing Chennai’s harsh summer conditions.
