Chennai, June 11:

The city continued to reel under intense summer heat, with Meenambakkam recording a scorching maximum temperature of 40.7°C on Tuesday, making it one of the hottest locations in Tamil Nadu. Nungambakkam also witnessed high temperatures, recording 40.4°C, reflecting persistent heatwave-like conditions across the city over the past several days.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), above-normal temperatures have been prevailing across parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for nearly 10 days. Several districts including Cuddalore, Madurai, Parangipettai, Puducherry, Dharmapuri, Tiruttani, Thondi, and Vellore are likely to experience temperatures exceeding 38°C in the coming days.

Authorities have advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours, and take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses as the hot conditions are expected to persist.
