Chennai, June 20:
Officials of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) has seized 4.862 kg of contraband and arrested a passenger who arrived from Bangkok at the Anna International airport here yesterday.
A PIB release here today said acting on specific intelligence, AIU officers intercepted an Indian who arrived from Bangkok via Singapore by Scoot Airlines. A thorough examination of his checked-in baggage led to the recovery of five airtight packets.
These packets were found concealed inside food products. Upon opening, the packets were found to contain 4.862 kg of green flowering and fruiting tops suspected to be illicit substances.
During the preliminary enquiry conducted by the customs officials, the passenger admitted that he was carrying the contraband for monetary consideration.
Consequently, the passenger has been arrested under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate and remanded in custody.
