Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Governor Arlekar on Sunday expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in the ammonia gas leak incident at a shrimp processing unit in Tiruvallur district.
In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister said he was “deeply pained” by the tragedy. “My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured,” the Prime Minister’s Office said.
Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar also condoled the deaths, describing the incident as a tragic loss of innocent lives. In his message, he said he was “deeply saddened” by the ammonia gas leak at the shrimp processing factory in Kannigaipair village near Periyapalayam.
“My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones in this unfortunate tragedy. I pray for strength and courage for them during this difficult time,” the Governor said.
He also expressed concern for the injured workers undergoing treatment and wished them a speedy recovery.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, claimed lives and left several workers hospitalised after they were exposed to toxic ammonia gas at the processing unit, raising serious concerns over industrial safety standards.
