Chennai, July 4:

The Tamil Nadu government has introduced strict timelines for completing disciplinary proceedings against officials, aiming to curb prolonged delays, especially in vigilance cases.

The move follows observations by the Madras High Court, which had flagged instances of government employees remaining under suspension for years without resolution.

Under the new guidelines, cases handled by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) must be processed within defined timeframes. Vigilance cases are to be completed within 80 days, while trap cases must be investigated within three months. Cases involving misappropriation have a nine-month deadline, and disproportionate assets cases must be concluded within a year.

The government has also mandated that final orders in non-vigilance cases be issued within 20 days of receiving the inquiry report. Departments have been warned that unnecessary delays could invite disciplinary action.

Officials said the new system is intended to ensure faster justice, improve administrative efficiency, and prevent indefinite suspension of employees.
