Chennai, July 7:
In a significant move towards modernising urban mobility, Chennai is set to implement the Chennai Intelligent Transport System (CITS), an AI-powered initiative aimed at transforming traffic management across the city.
The project is designed to reduce congestion, optimise traffic signal timings, and enhance road safety at key junctions. By using artificial intelligence and real-time data analysis, authorities plan to monitor traffic flow more efficiently and respond dynamically to changing road conditions.
Officials say the system will enable smarter coordination of signals, helping to minimise waiting times and improve overall travel efficiency for commuters. The initiative is also expected to strengthen enforcement by detecting violations and improving incident response times.
Once fully rolled out, CITS is anticipated to bring noticeable improvements in daily commuting, particularly during peak hours, while contributing to a safer and more organised road network.
Civic authorities have urged residents to stay informed about the upcoming changes and make use of the new system as it becomes operational.
