Chennai, July 9:

AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday indicated that by-elections to six Assembly constituencies, vacated by AIADMK MLAs, are likely to be delayed due to pending court cases related to the resignations and other election-related issues.

Palaniswami made the remarks while addressing party functionaries from Tirunelveli at a consultative meeting held at the AIADMK headquarters in Chennai. The meeting, which was attended by office-bearers from Tiruchy and Tirunelveli districts, focused on reviewing organisational affairs and preparing the party for the upcoming local body elections.

Urging party workers to stay connected with the public, he emphasised the importance of identifying and resolving local grievances promptly, even before ruling party MLAs could step in. He also called on cadres to actively communicate the AIADMK government’s achievements and welfare schemes to the people.

Highlighting the significance of sustained public outreach, Palaniswami said that electoral victories and defeats are part of political life. He recalled that under the leadership of party founder MG Ramachandran and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK had experienced both highs and lows. He further noted that the DMK had been out of power for nearly a decade before returning to office.

Without naming individuals, the AIADMK leader criticised some former members who, he alleged, had left the party for personal gains and positions without understanding the realities of politics.

Calling for organisational strengthening, Palaniswami directed office-bearers to recruit more youth and students into the party’s Youth Wing and Students Wing. He stressed that only eligible and committed members should be enrolled, inactive members should be replaced, and responsibilities should be entrusted to dedicated cadres.
