Mysuru, July 13:
Legendary playback singer S. Janaki was cremated with full state honours at a farmhouse in Kaniyanahundi near Mysuru on Sunday evening, drawing a large gathering of family members, fans and members of the film and music fraternity.
Her granddaughter, Vydyula, performed the last rites in the presence of close relatives and admirers. Earlier in the day, Janaki’s mortal remains were kept at Maharaja’s College grounds for public homage, where thousands paid their respects.
S. Janaki, whose career spanned over six decades, was one of India’s most celebrated playback singers, having recorded thousands of songs across multiple languages. She worked with generations of composers and remained a defining voice in Indian cinema.
