Toronto, July 14:
Two people were killed and three others injured in a shooting near Toronto’s Salsa on St. Clair festival, prompting a major police response and increased security. The incident occurred Saturday near St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue, close to the popular Latino cultural event that attracts thousands of visitors.
Toronto Police issued an active shooter alert and advised people to avoid the area while officers secured the scene. Authorities later confirmed the area was safe, but no suspect or arrests had been reported.
Investigators are examining the circumstances behind the shooting, while the motive remains unknown. The incident adds to recent concerns over gun violence in Canada, following deadly shootings in Montreal and a school shooting in British Columbia earlier this year.
