Chennai, July 16:
The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has issued No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to 15 CBSE and other board schools and granted initial approval to 10 private institutions, marking a continued push to streamline the recognition process for educational institutions in the State.
Announcing the development, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said the approvals were part of ongoing efforts to clear pending applications and facilitate the establishment and functioning of private schools across categories. The approvals cover a wide range of institutions, including nursery, primary, matriculation, CBSE and other board schools operating under the State’s private school education framework.
According to an official statement, private schools are required to obtain initial approval before commencing operations and must renew their recognition every three years to ensure compliance with regulatory norms. The department has been actively processing such applications following the formation of the new government, officials said.
Earlier, on June 16, recognition orders were issued to as many as 848 private schools across Tamil Nadu, significantly reducing the backlog of pending cases. Continuing the process, the Minister on July 14 personally handed over 25 approval orders, including 15 NOCs for CBSE and other board schools and 10 initial approval certificates for matriculation, nursery and primary schools.
The event was attended by senior officials, including School Education Secretary P. Chandramohan, Director of School Education S. Kannappan and Director of Private Schools S. Suganya, who reiterated the department’s commitment to ensuring transparency and efficiency in granting approvals.
In a move aimed at simplifying procedures and reducing delays, the department has also enabled online submission of applications from July 1. Institutions seeking to start CBSE, other board, matriculation, nursery or primary schools can now apply through the official portal, while applications for renewal of recognition can also be filed online by uploading the required documents.
Officials said the digitisation of the approval process is expected to enhance accountability, improve turnaround time and make it easier for school managements to comply with regulations, ultimately contributing to the growth and quality of the education sector in the State.
