Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Vijay and DMK President M K Stalin congratulated Triple jumpers Praveen Chithravel and Sela Prabhu for winning the silver and bronze medals respectively, marking India’s first ever double podium finish, in the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, even as the state government announced cash incentives in recognition of their achievement and wished them to win more laurels for the state.
In a message, the Lok Bhavan said “the Governor extends his heartfelt congratulations to Thiru. Praveen Chithravel and Thiru. Selva Prabhu on securing the Silver and Bronze medals respectively in the Men’s Triple Jump at the Commonwealth Games 2026, marking India’s first-ever double podium finish in this event.”
“This outstanding accomplishment brings great pride to the nation and serves as an inspiration to young athletes across the country”, it said, adding, the Governor conveyed his best wishes for their continued success in future endeavours.
An official release said, Vijay hailed the victories of the two triple jumpers and said it was a matter of immense happiness that two sportsperson from Tamil Nadu have won medals in the same event for the first time.
In recognition of this historic achievements, Vijay announced a cash incentive of Rs 30 alkh for Praveeen Chithravel and Rs 20 lakh for Sela Prabhu and termed their feat as a reward for their hardwork and dedication.
Congratulating their for bringing honours to Tamil Nadu and India, the Chief Minister wished to achieve many more such laurels in the global sporting arena.
In a post on X, Stalin congratulated the two Triple jumpers from the state for winning medals at the Glasgow event and wished that many more such young athletes from Tamil Nadu bring more victories for India.
