Chennai, Aug 22:
Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar on Saturday warned that remarks expunged from the House records should not be circulated on social media as reels or in any other form.
He said the Speaker had the authority to remove objectionable or unparliamentary remarks from the Assembly proceedings and that once such remarks were expunged, they should not be republished or circulated.
The warning came amid concerns over portions of Assembly proceedings being shared on social media platforms in the form of short videos and reels. The Speaker cautioned members against attempting to circumvent the Assembly’s rules by circulating remarks that had been removed from the official records.
He emphasised that the decision to expunge remarks was part of the powers and procedures of the Assembly and should be respected by all members.
The Speaker’s warning assumes significance as social media platforms have increasingly become a major avenue for political parties and legislators to share clips from Assembly proceedings.
