DMDK general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth on Thursday said the Tamil Nadu Assembly functioned smoothly until Minister Aadhav Arjuna began speaking, alleging that his interventions often triggered arguments and commotion in the House.
Speaking to reporters, Premalatha said legislators were increasingly preparing for Assembly debates with the seriousness of students preparing for examinations.
She said members were making detailed preparations before participating in discussions, reflecting the importance of the issues being raised in the Legislature.
However, she alleged that heated exchanges and disturbances often began after Aadhav Arjuna intervened in debates.
Her remarks came amid continuing political discussion over the tone and conduct of recent Assembly proceedings.
The DMDK leader’s comments are likely to add to the criticism and counter-criticism surrounding the government’s handling of debates in the House.
The ruling side has maintained that Assembly proceedings should be conducted effectively while ensuring that members are given adequate opportunities to raise public issues.
