Chennai, Aug. 31:
Remarks made by TVK MLA Karuppaiya on Jallikattu during the Tamil Nadu Assembly have been expunged from the House records, Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar announced.
Karuppaiya, the MLA from Sholavandan, had faced criticism from AIADMK, AMMK and other political leaders over his comments on conducting Jallikattu at the Eruthazhuvuthal arena. AIADMK has also announced a protest in Madurai on September 3, condemning his remarks.
The MLA had subsequently expressed regret, stating that he had not intended to denigrate Jallikattu, a traditional Tamil sport. He said his comments were made with students in mind and that he wanted young people to focus on their education and future. He apologised if his remarks had hurt the sentiments of the younger generation.
