Chennai, Sept 2:
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has announced the list of recipients for its annual awards, which will be presented at the party’s Mupperum Vizha in Karur on September 17.
DMK deputy general secretary and parliamentary party leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi has been selected for the Periyar Award. The Anna Award will be presented to Suba Seetharaman, former member of the party’s audit committee and former chairman of the Palayamkottai municipality.
The Kalaignar Award will go to S.M. Ramachandran, a veteran party functionary and former Anna Nagar MLA who has completed 100 years of age.
The Pavendhar Award has been announced for Kulithalai Sivaraman, a senior DMK functionary and executive committee member who had also served as chairman of the Kulithalai panchayat union.
The Perasiriyar Award will be presented to Marudhur Ramalingam, chairman of the DMK’s Adi Dravidar Welfare Committee and former MLA from Kattumannarkoil. The M.K. Stalin Award will be conferred on former minister and former combined Coimbatore district DMK secretary Pongalur N. Palanisamy.
The awards are part of the DMK’s annual Mupperum Vizha, which commemorates the birth anniversaries of Periyar E.V. Ramasamy and former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai, along with the founding of the DMK.
Party president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is scheduled to present the awards at the function in Karur.
