Chennai, Sept 5:
Chennai Central Railway Station has emerged as the third-highest revenue-generating railway station in India, earning Rs 1,299 crore in passenger revenue during the last financial year.
According to the figures reported for the country’s top 10 railway stations, Delhi Railway Station topped the list with passenger revenue of Rs 3,337 crore. Howrah Railway Station in West Bengal stood second with Rs 1,692 crore, while Chennai Central occupied the third position.
The figures underline the continuing importance of Chennai Central as a major railway hub in southern India, serving large numbers of passengers travelling within Tamil Nadu as well as to destinations across the country.
The revenue ranking comes amid the Centre’s continuing focus on modernising railway infrastructure and expanding train operations. Increased passenger movement and the growing scale of railway services have contributed to the strong revenue performance of major stations.
Chennai Central’s third-place position also highlights the station’s importance to Chennai’s transport network and its role in connecting the city with major destinations across India.
