Chennai, Sept 5:

Tamil Nadu’s BE and BTech supplementary counselling has begun, offering students another opportunity to secure engineering seats after 56,530 vacancies remained following three rounds of regular counselling.

Eligible students can submit their preferred colleges and courses until 5 pm on September 5. The supplementary round is open to students who appeared for the Class 12 board examinations but did not apply for engineering admission, as well as those who cleared the supplementary examinations.

A total of 18,548 students have applied for the supplementary counselling. The vacancies include 53,668 seats under the general category, 2,731 under the vocational category, 31 seats under the 7.5% government-school quota in the academic stream and 100 under the vocational stream.

Competition is particularly intense for the government-school quota. While only 31 academic-stream seats are available, 4,798 students have applied. More than 270 applicants have scored above 150 in the engineering cut-off, while 37 have scored above 170.

Tamil Nadu has 2,53,806 BE and BTech seats across Anna University, Annamalai University, government, government-aided and private engineering institutions. Of these, 1,99,775 government-quota seats are filled through TNEA.

This year, 2,36,017 students applied for engineering admission. After three rounds, 1,44,295 seats had been allotted, including 14,931 under the government-school quota and 1,29,364 under the general category.

The temporary allotment in the supplementary round will be released on September 7, with students required to confirm it by 7 pm the same day. The final allotment is scheduled for September 9.
