Chennai, Sept 8:
The AIADMK on Tuesday invited applications from party workers seeking to contest the October 6 by-elections in the Madurantakam (SC) and Dharapuram (SC) Assembly constituencies.

The announcement came a day after the Election Commission scheduled the bypolls to the two constituencies, with the Model Code of Conduct coming into immediate effect. Voting will be held on October 6 and counting will take place on October 9.

According to the AIADMK announcement, aspirants can obtain and submit application forms at the party headquarters. Applications are to be submitted along with the required details within the deadline specified by the party.

The by-elections have assumed political significance as both constituencies fell vacant after their AIADMK MLAs resigned and joined the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The contests are expected to be an early electoral test for the ruling TVK government.

The AIADMK’s move to invite applications signals the party’s preparations to reclaim the two seats, which it had won in the 2026 Assembly election. The bypoll campaign is expected to witness a keen contest among the major political parties.

The Election Commission has fixed September 9 as the start of nomination filing, with September 16 as the last date. Scrutiny will be held on September 17 and candidates can withdraw their nominations until September 19.
