Chennai, Oct 15:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Anil Kumar, Executive Director of Munitions India Ltd (MIL), Pune, and two private individuals in a bribery case involving alleged illegal gratification for extending official favours.
The other accused are Ashish Kansal, CEO and director/promoter of SMPP Ltd, and B Harshavardhan, brother of Anil Kumar.
The CBI registered the case on October 12, alleging that Anil Kumar, while serving as Executive Director at MIL in Pune, conspired with certain private contractors and vendors to demand and accept bribes in exchange for extending official favours.
During searches at Anil Kumar’s premises in Pune, the agency seized Rs 1.73 crore in cash. Searches at premises linked to the accused in Mysuru, Bengaluru and Delhi yielded another Rs 50 lakh in cash, along with incriminating documents.
The CBI said the investigation was continuing.
