Chennai,  Oct 31:

A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression on Saturday, bringing rainfall to several parts of Tamil Nadu over the next few days, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai.
The system, which formed over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining areas, is moving west-northwestwards and is expected to concentrate into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions. It is likely to move towards the Andhra Pradesh coast over the next two days.
Under its influence, light rain is likely in the Western Ghats and coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on Saturday. On Sunday, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds is likely in the northern coastal districts, Western Ghats districts, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Namakkal, Salem, Erode and Karur.
Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds is likely at isolated places in the Nilgiris on November 2. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu received 21 cm of rainfall between October 1 and 30 under the northeast monsoon, which is 32 per cent above the seasonal average. The weather department has also forecast a possibility of light rain during Deepavali on November 8, while the chances of heavy rainfall are low.
