Chennai: The Idol Wing police conducted an inquiry with Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) Department Additional Commissioner N Thirumagal this morning.
The Idol Wing police team, headed by IG Pon Manickavel, questioned Thirumagal at her residence at Karunanidhi Nagar, Vyasarpadi.
DSP Kumar of Idol Wing police was also part of the team which conducted the inquiry.
The questioning was in connection with alleged misappropriation of gold and funds collected for making two idols at the Sri Ekambareswarar temple in Kancheepuram.
According to reports, the team is also investigating the disappearance of a statue of a peacock from the Kapaleeswarar temple, Mylapore.
Chief sthapathi of the HR&CE, Muthiah, was questioned by the team recently regarding a missing statue in 2004.
The Idol Wing police found that in the five years Thirumagal was in charge of the temple, she has not visited the place even once.
The Idol Wing department has come down heavily on several prominent persons in the city regarding theft of temple antiques.
Businessman Ranvir Shah and entrepreneur Kiran Rao are facing charges of keeping temple idols in their houses.
