CM, deputy distribute relief material in Gaja-hit delta districts

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam are presently visiting areas in the delta districts that have been devastated by Cyclone Gaja.

They distributed relief material to 36 affected families of Mapillaiyarkulam in Pudukottai district this morning.

The duo also handed over compensation amount of Rs 10 lakh each to families of six people who died in the cyclone.

Speaking to mediapersons after surveying the area, Palaniswami, who announced Rs 1,000 crore as cyclone relief in the delta districts, assured that the compensation would reach everyone. He added that Rs 5 crore had been allotted for each district’s relief work.

Observing that the district has been hit badly by the cyclone, he also gave the assurance that power would be restored in Pudukottai town by tomorrow evening and that the villages would get back electricity in five days’ time.

Palaniswami said he was likely to meet Prime Minister Modi 22 November regarding the issue of getting cyclone relief for the State.
