The Supreme Court today said it will hear CBIs plea regarding the Saradha chit fund case tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 12 pm and the Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 2.00 pm today amid ruckus, even as the Trinamool Congress MPs rushed to the Well of the House and demanded discussion on the ongoing CBI-Kolkata Police face-off over the Saradha chit fund case.
The CBI had earlier today moved the Supreme Court seeking directions to Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar to cooperate with the investigation related to Saradha chit fund case.
CBI in its petition has said that Kumar was summoned multiple times but failed to cooperate and created hurdles in the investigation. Kumar had led a Special Investigation Team of West Bengal police probing the scams regarding missing documents and files.
The showdown between West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) came out in the open yesterday. The West Bengal leader began the sit-in protest in front of Metro Cinema after CBI tried to quiz Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in connection with Saradha and Rose Valley Chit Fund scams.
She also said she would not attend the assembly where the state budget would be placed by Finance Minister Amit Mitra today.
Mamata Banerjee has been extended support from many opposition parties in her fight against the CBI. The BJP, on the other hand, described the showdown in Kolkata as a constitutional crisis and has demanded that President’s Rule to be imposed in West Bengal.
