2019 elections: Makkal Needhi Maiam releases first list (videos)

Chennai: Makkal Needhi Maiam founder and actor-politician Kamal Haasan this evening released the first list of contestants for the 40 parliamentary constituencies (39 in Tamilnadu and 1 in Puducherry) that go to polls in the State 18 April.

Releasing the list before mediapersons at a private hotel in T Nagar, Kamal said he would announce on 24 March whether he would be contesting in the polls.

The list has a few notable names like the wife of Kameela Nasser, wife of actor Nasser, who will be contesting from the Central Chennai seat.

Likewise, retired IPS officer Maurya is being fielded in North Chennai to contest in the Makkal Needhi Maiam symbol.

Subramaniam will be the candidate for the lone Puducherry constituency.

So, far the party that was launched in 2018, has announced 21 candidates for as many constituencies.

The rest of the list would be announced later, said Kamal.
